Our story, so far…

Marcela Almon Pilates Teacher training

We want you to feel at home so let us tell you a little bit about ourselves. Seagrass was founded by Marcela Almond in 2015 after having worked in the wellness industry for many years. She wanted to create a wellness space that was welcoming and non-judgmental.

The ocean has always been a large part of Marcela’s life and she is a  keen scuba diver who has travelled all over the world in search of watery adventures. Seagrass is named after the only plant to flower in the sea, as she believes that everyone can grow given the right environment. It is also in reference to where Marcela lives between the beautiful beaches of Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay and the green grass landscape of Exmoor. North Devon is a unique and beautiful place to live and work, Marcela feels extremely privileged to call it home. Marcela’s interest in movement started when she took up ballet at a young age and later, discovered a love for contemporary dance and physical theatre. This led to her completing a Bachelors of Arts Honours Degree in Dance and Theatre studies at the Roehampton Institute London.  She later went on to specialise in Physical Theatre, where she developed her love of clowning and hula hooping.

Marcela had a desire to expand her fascination with movement beyond just performing, and this led to her transition into teaching. Since then, she has managed and delivered a range of Performing Arts courses including GCSEs, A Level, BTEC and Degrees. After several years working in mainstream education Marcela made the decision to follow her heart and to pursue her passion for helping others. Marcela gained qualifications in Gym Instructing, Exercise to Music, Mindfulness, Yoga, Pilates at Level 3, Myofascial Release Technique and Holistic Therapeutic Massage at Level 4. She now combines her movement, bodywork and pathology experience to create an effective practice, restoring movement to your body allowing you to move as efficiently and as pain-free as possible. Marcela has a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so she has experienced first-hand, the power of movement to heal and maintain a healthy body and mind.  She knew that she wanted to utilise this knowledge to help others recover and live pain-free.

Marcela loves what she does so much that she now enables others to become teachers through her Teacher Training Diplomas, she is a Tutor and Assessor for both Active IQ and YMCA Awards. To find out more please click here
