Our story, so far…
We want you to feel at home so let us tell you a little bit about ourselves. Seagrass was founded by Marcela Almond in 2015 after having worked in the wellness industry for many years. She wanted to create a wellness space that was welcoming and non-judgmental.
The ocean has always been a large part of Marcela’s life and she is a keen scuba diver who has travelled all over the world in search of watery adventures. Seagrass is named after the only plant to flower in the sea, as she believes that everyone can grow given the right environment. It is also in reference to the studio’s location, between the beautiful beaches of Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay and the green grass landscape of Exmoor. North Devon is a unique and beautiful place to live and work, Marcela and Lauren feel extremely privileged to call it home.
Marcela’s interest in
Marcela has a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so she has experienced first-hand, the power of movement to heal and maintain a healthy body and mind. She knew that she wanted to utilise this knowledge to help others recover and live pain-free. She made the decision to follow her heart and left mainstream education to pursue her passion for helping others. Marcela gained qualifications in Gym Instructing, Exercise to Music, Mindfulness, Yoga, Pilates at Level 3, Myofascial Release Technique and Holistic Therapeutic Massage at Level 4. She now combines her movement, bodywork and pathology experience to create an effective practice, restoring movement to your body allowing you to move as efficiently and as pain-free as possible.
In 2017 Lauren Keerie Joined Seagrass as our Educational Centre was born. Seagrass began offering Active IQ Level 3 Diploma courses in Yoga and Pilates. The aim of the school was to provide flexible and supportive training of the highest standard right here in North Devon. Lauren has always had a keen interest in movement, the body, physical activity and fitness, first discovered early on in life through her involvement in a wide assortment of dance and movement classes. This inspired and led her to complete and achieving a first class honours degree in dance and movement.
Upon graduation, Lauren discovered her love for teaching and education. Over the last decade, she has managed and delivered different GCSE Dance, A Level Dance and BTEC Performing Arts courses as well as a range of other qualifications in stage schools, colleges and other institutions across the country. When Lauren discovered yoga, she found instantly synergy with the self-awareness, expression of movement, use of the breath and alignment techniques encouraged within the yoga class. Since then, Lauren has used her yoga practice as a form of expression, as well as improving her spiritual and body awareness. She continues to find innovative ways to marry her dance training with her yoga practice and to evolve her own methods and practice.
